Moussaoui tries to withdraw his guilty plea

Posted on May 9th, 2006

[tag]Zacarias Moussaoui[/tag], the [tag]9/11[/tag] conspirator who recently pleaded guilty has asked to court to allow him to withdraw his guilty plea and instead have a trial. He says that he lied on the witness stand about his involvement in the 9/11 plot. As part of his 2005 guilty plea, he testified that it was his assignment to [tag]hijack[/tag] a 747 jetliner with [tag]shoe bomber[/tag] Richard Reid as part of his hijacking team.

Since Moussaoui was given a life sentence instead of the death penalty, he says he now believes that he could get a fair trial from an American jury. The judge has denied his request, and said that by pleading guilty he waived his right to a [tag]jury trial[/tag].
