Carnival of Fraud – 2nd Edition

Yes, that’s right. We made it past the first edition of the Carnival of Fraud and got to the second. And no, we’re not going to be like other carnivals that run a few times and then stop. I’m in this for the long haul because I think it’s going to be fun hearing many perspectives on fraud!

First, I want to encourage you to read my tribute to John Patrick Tierney, a firefighter who was one of the 2996 victims lost on 9/11. The “2996 Tribute” included over three thousand bloggers each paying tribute to one life lost. The entire list of participants and tributes can be found here.

And now on with the Carnival…

Nick Schweitzer ponders whether or not we are safer since 9/11.

Laura Ricci discusses the consequences for committing fraud in the process of drafting proposals for Federal projects. She has seen this up close…

Joe Kristan at Roth CPA discusses possible consequences of criminal tax fraud. What’s with all of these discussions of prison time?

The Ripoff Report post complaints about a company called Cydcor, that is accusing of being a good old pyramid scheme.

Journalist, radio talk show host, and blogger Jessica McBride talks about the inaction on the part of the Milwaukee Police Department, even in light of all of the violent crimes occurring in the city. Speaking of that violent crime, Patrick at Badger Blogger discusses the recent gang rape of an 11-year-old girl, and the fact that one of the alleged perpetrators (a 40-year-old) said he thought she looked like she was 19 or 20.

SteveO takes a trip down memory lane to a situation regarding Jason Macer, who was posing as an employee of Credit Suisse by pharming (making it looked liked his domain was owned by Credit Suisse).

Doctabones is discussing how health food stores use scare tactics and misinformation to sell their products to unsuspecting customers.

Join us again for next week’s Carnival of Fraud, which will be held on September 19. Make your submissions here.

Hello, My name is David Alford and I work in the Credit Department for Verizon Wireless. I noticed on your sight that a SteveO worked on a case involving Jason Macer. We are currently investigating a James Macer in Dallas TX w/ Photonic Software Creations. There are many similarites with this company and another one called OSI Hosting ran my Jason Macer. Any information would be extremely helpful.
