Some years ago one of the students I had the privilege of teaching was majoring in accountancy specifically so that he could become a forensic accountant. His goal was to land a job with the FBI, which (so he said) was hiring a fair number of such workers.

I imagine the IRS would be a likely source of jobs, too.

What about insurance companies? My son works for a major insurer as a claims adjuster; part of his job is to recognize when a claim appears to be fraudulent, although he is not an investigator. When he suspects fraud, he passes the case along to a different department. Do insurers hire forensic accountants, or do their investigators come from a different background?</description>
