He is truly a &#8220;First Amendment Badass.&#8221;\u00a0 Last year, he had an unfortunate incident occur, which proves that no good deed goes unpunished. <a href=\"http:\/\/phillylawblog.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/03\/the-evolution-of-crystal-cox-anatomy-of-a-scammer\">Marc Randazza briefly agreed to represent &#8220;investigative blogger&#8221; Crystal Cox<\/a> in an appeal of the lawsuit against her for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sequenceinc.com\/fraudfiles\/2012\/03\/investigative-journalist-crystal-cox-attacks-attorney-kevin-d-padrick\/\">defamation of Kevin Padrick and Obsidian Finance.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The problem was that <a href=\"http:\/\/randazza.wordpress.com\/2012\/03\/30\/judge-rules-again-that-blogger-crystal-cox-is-not-a-journalist-you-know-why-because-she-isnt-a-journalist\/\">the judge declared that Crystal Cox is not a journalist.<\/a> First amendment lawyers worried about the effects that decision might have on other bloggers, who might be journalists. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sequenceinc.com\/fraudfiles\/2012\/12\/crystal-cox-still-an-extortionist\/\">Crystal Cox is not a journalist, but <strong>is<\/strong> an extortionist<\/a>. Still, Marc worried about whether this decision could have unintended consequences.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He briefly agreed to represent Crystal Cox, then she changed her mind, got angry with Marc, and decided to register a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.popehat.com\/2012\/03\/30\/investigative-journalist-crystal-coxs-latest-target-an-enemys-three-year-old-daughter\/\">bunch of domain names using Marc Randazza&#8217;s name<\/a>. Then she\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.popehat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/CoxToRandazzaEmail.png\">offered Randazza &#8220;reputation management services&#8221; (i.e. pay me a monthly fee, or else).\u00a0 <\/a>When he did not agree to pay her, Cox began posting defamatory content about him on multiple websites. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sequenceinc.com\/fraudfiles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/crystal-cox-reputation-management.jpg\">This isn&#8217;t the first time<\/a> Cox has done this, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sequenceinc.com\/fraudfiles\/2012\/04\/crystal-cox-extortionist-you-decide\/\">and the rest of the world recognizes this as extortion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Crystal Cox didn&#8217;t only lash out at Marc Randazza. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kashmirhill\/2012\/04\/02\/ugly-new-reputation-smearing-tactic-going-after-a-toddlers-internet-footprint\/\">She lashed out at his wife and their three year old daughter<\/a>. Randazza and his family took Cox to court, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sequenceinc.com\/fraudfiles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/randazza-v-cox-nevada.pdf\">alleging cyberpiracy and cybersquatting<\/a>, among other things. In the meantime, a\u00a0 list of domain names containing Marc Randazza&#8217;s name and registered by Crystal Cox <a href=\"http:\/\/randazza.wordpress.com\/2012\/11\/30\/randazza-v-cox-arbitration-decision\/\">were turned over to Marc Randazza<\/a> pursuant to an arbitration decision by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). <a href=\"http:\/\/randazza.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/11\/randazza-v-cox-decision-d2012-1525.pdf\">The WIPO decision<\/a> stated that the domain names were registered and used in bad faith by Cox, who was attempting to <a href=\"http:\/\/phillylawblog.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/03\/the-evolution-of-crystal-cox-anatomy-of-a-scammer\/\">extort Randazza<\/a> and confuse\u00a0 consumers.<\/p>\n<p>Marc Randazza filed for a temporary restraining order in his federal lawsuit against investigative blogger Crystal Cox,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sequenceinc.com\/fraudfiles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/randazza-cox-tro.pdf\"> asking that several more domain names be turned over to him<\/a>. I understand that he&#8217;s worried about how this &#8220;not a journalist&#8221; decision might affect other <strong>real<\/strong> journalists who write primarily on blogs. But I wonder why he hasn&#8217;t learned anything from the Marc Randazza debacle.<\/p>\n<p>No good deed goes unpunished. How long until <a href=\"http:\/\/www.popehat.com\/2012\/04\/04\/crystal-cox-not-a-free-speech-advocate\/\">Crystal Cox<\/a> gets mad at Eugene Volokh and starts defaming and extorting him? <a href=\"http:\/\/crystal-cox.com\/post\/21430349125\/a-quick-laugh-fest-intermission-for-the-idiotic-crystal\">Nothing is too crazy for Crystal Cox, who now thinks she&#8217;s uncovered a massive conspiracy tying together dozens of people<\/a>. Apparently these dozens of people all have some sort of mythical connection that makes them want to murder Crystal Cox.
