{"id":1739,"date":"2008-08-07T15:19:52","date_gmt":"2008-08-07T20:19:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sequence-inc.com\/fraudfiles\/?p=1739"},"modified":"2017-11-27T11:33:46","modified_gmt":"2017-11-27T17:33:46","slug":"ytb-called-gigantic-pyramid-scheme-by-california-attorney-general-and-sued-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sequenceinc.com\/fraudfiles\/ytb-called-gigantic-pyramid-scheme-by-california-attorney-general-and-sued-too\/","title":{"rendered":"YTB Called &#8220;Gigantic Pyramid Scheme&#8221; By California Attorney General (and Sued, Too)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.walletpop.com\/blog\/2008\/08\/06\/yourtravelbiz-ytb-sued-by-attorney-general-for-being-gigantic\/\">Yesterday on WalletPop<\/a>, I wrote about how California&#8217;s Attorney General <a href=\"http:\/\/ag.ca.gov\/newsalerts\/release.php?id=1596\">announced a lawsuit<\/a> against <a href=\"http:\/\/ytb.com\/\">YourTravelBiz.com<\/a> (YTB) and called it a &#8220;gigantic pyramid scheme.&#8221; The evidence that it is a pyramid scheme is based upon the fact that the company theoretically offers members a chance to sell travel services to customers, yet that&#8217;s only a small fraction of how the money really flows.<\/p>\n<p>The real money in YTB is in recruiting new members, who pay $450 to join and pay $50 a month to stay active and eligible for commissions. Hmmmm&#8230; Kind of sounds like the $448 it costs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sequence-inc.com\/fraudfiles\/2008\/07\/12\/more-on-why-shoptoearn-sucks-mypowermall-teamnational\/\">to join Shop to Earn<\/a> and the minimum monthly purchase of $100 from its &#8220;Shop to Earth&#8221; products in order to be &#8220;qualified&#8221; to be paid commissions.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t even seem like YTB tried to hide the fact that it was a gigantic pyramid scheme. In 2007, there were over 200,000 members, and only 38% of them made anything from actually selling travel services. And for those who did make money selling travel services, it averaged $39 a year.<\/p>\n<p>And late last year, another WalletPop writer, Zac Bissonnette, clued in on the proof that YTB is a pyramid scheme. <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/View?docid=dg3x8gf9_0cdkt42\">He wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The latest 10QSB for the company provides damning evidence that this company&#8217;s online travel agency business opportunity is nothing more than a classic pyramid scheme.
