Everyone in the area knows that if you live in Milwaukee, you&#8217;re paying some of the highest taxes around. Property taxes are sky high, we have the highest sales tax of any county in the state, and our fees are obnoxious.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s about to get worse. Here&#8217;s what is in store for us:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The city approved a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/watch\/?watch=1&amp;date=9\/2\/2008&amp;id=45556\">$20 per car &#8220;wheel tax&#8221;<\/a> for cars kept in the city (expected to bring in $6.6 million)<\/li>\n<li>Mayor Tom Barrett is asking for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/index.aspx?id=791583\">$53 of fee increases for city homeowners<\/a><\/li>\n<li>This is on top of the property tax increase Barrett is going to ask for, which is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sequence-inc.com\/fraudfiles\/2008\/05\/27\/milwaukee-mayor-wants-to-raise-property-taxes-26\/\">estimated in the 26% range<\/a> for the city of Milwaukee portion<\/li>\n<li>Milwaukee Public Schools is asking for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sequence-inc.com\/fraudfiles\/2008\/06\/05\/milwaukee-public-schools-budget-time-fun-to-be-had-by-all\/\">a 15% increase in their portion<\/a> of our property taxes<\/li>\n<li>Heating costs are already predicted to go up dramatically, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/index.aspx?id=782714\">some say by 21%<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The county is having a referendum on increasing our already highest-in-the-state sales tax another 1% (expected to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/index.aspx?id=766576\">bring in $130 million a year<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When will our politicains learn that the answer is not to increase fees and taxes? Why are they trying to hide their spending by calling things &#8220;fees&#8221; instead of exactly what they are: <strong>taxes<\/strong>? How much more do they think property owners can take?<\/p>\n<p>The answer is to cut our government. Oh sure, the media tries to scare citizens by mentioning things like cuts to the fire department and police. Let&#8217;s try a more common sense approach to this. The five guys I see standing around when street repairs are supposed to be happening? Fire three or four of them. I don&#8217;t need to pay them $30 or $40 an hour plus benefits to stand around all day.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s cut back trash collection, or better yet, let&#8217;s privatize it. Let&#8217;s give homeowners a say in their services, and use a private company that has homeowners pay based upon how much trash they produce.<\/p>\n<p>There are all kinds of non-essential services that simply need to be cut. Taxpayers can&#8217;t take much more of this. Our government is out of control and we need to stop them. We are getting closer and closer to becoming Socialists, and history proves (quite nicely) that Socialism doesn&#8217;t work. Let&#8217;s go back to our roots as a capitalist society. Privatize as much as possible. Quit forcing citizens to pay dearly for a bloated and ineffective government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you live in Milwaukee, get ready for even higher taxes and fees.
